RESEARCH & TRAINING
Research in Urban & Regional Planning Scheme : Research in Urban and Regional Planning in Urban Development is a Central Plan Scheme to initiate, formulate and assist the research and training programmes under various components of urban development. During the 9 th Five Year Plan, a sum of Rs.14.44 crore was utilized by way of grants-in-aid to various organizations/institutions for research projects, seminars, workshops, training programmes, etc as well as for Urban Mapping Scheme.
Under this Scheme in the Tenth Five Year Plan period, it has been decided to provide financial assistance to one institute/organization in each State/UT for taking up training programmes of all the elected women representatives in the urban local bodies of that State/UT. Besides, financial grants under this Scheme are also provided to various organizations/institutions for conducting various research projects, seminars, workshops and other training programmes relating to urban development, thereby improving urban life directly or indirectly. During the years 2002-03 to 2004-05, financial grants to the tune of Rs.1.50 crore, 1.00 crore and 1.00 crore, respectively have been released to various State Governments and reputed organizations and institutes to conduct research & training programmes, etc under this scheme.
Preparation of a ‘Report on State of India’s Urbanisation’ :
National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP) is entrusted with preparation of ‘Report on the State of India’s Urbanization’. It will be a comprehensive account and analysis of the urban situation in India and would serve the following objectives :
(i) Enhance understanding of the urban phenomena in India covering demographic, economic, social and physical and environmental aspects, and analyzing the factors and forces that are shaping, and contributing to the growth and development of cities and towns in India.
(ii) Provide an objective assessment of the urban situation in India as well as of the problems and opportunities.
(iii) Assist the Government of India in the formulation of urban policies and identification of sphere of public intervention; and
(iv) Serve as a benchmark for similar assessments to be made from time to time.
Research in Urban and Regional Planning
Research in Urban and Regional Planning is Central Plan Scheme under which various State Governments and reputed institutes/organizations are provided financial aids to conduct research studies on subjects relating to urban development and organize training programmes, seminars, workshops, etc. The following are the research studies for which grants have been provided during the last three years as well as in the current financial year:
